take my word for it wednesday.. this is the best turkey burger recipe..
it's wednesday again and this is when i ask you to take my word for it.. now if you've been here before you can skip this part where i explain "take my word for it wednesday" and if your new here welcome.. on wednesday's i post a recipe i ask you to take my word for it's good, i won't steer you wrong.. believe me.. but for whatever i reason i won't have a picture, or the picture is not very appealing, or i simply want you to try the recipe.. for the last several years i have been replacing my old stand by ground beef recipes with turkey and for the most part the family has been pleased with the results.. accept turkey burgers..they just don't seem to like them.. my favorite has always been the mar a lago turkey burgers featured on oprah forever ago.. recipe here.. and up until now i thought i would never find a better turkey burger.. but moveeeeeee over mar a lago there's a new sheriff in town.. and this sheriff is spicy, sweet and ohh so flavorful.. i got the inspiration for these burgers from cruising pinterest and i saw this recipe here.. and thought well i do have left over pineapple i got 2 in my bountiful basket last week and i made those really cute pineapple flowers..
i will post the how to on those tomorrow.. but i had 1/2 a pineapple left and thought ohh those would be great grilled on turkey burgers..then i remembered i had 2 packages of hawaiian rolls left over from easter and switched to sliders.. (i just love sliders.. not sure why but i order them all the time ha) knowing i wanted something to baste the pineapple with and the burgers too i rummaged through the fridge and came up with sweet baby rays bbq sauce, house of tsang szechuan spicy stir fry sauce and siracha.. hmm i wonder if they would taste good together.. let me tell you THEY DO!!! pete kept saying gosh darn!! (not really but for the purposes of this story it was gosh darn) these are great.. gosh darn it this is the best burger i have ever had.. he actually raved so much you would think he never got a good meal out of my kitchen.. ha ha which he quickly clarified when he realized how much he was talking about this particular little burger.. he says honey everything you make is wonderful this is just %^&*'N awesome!!! so i guess he liked it.. ha
my counters were so full of clean dishes from easter so i had no where else but to take the picture in the tiny corner by the toaster oven ha
sweet n spicy turkey burgers
prep time: 15 minutes
cooking time: 15 minutes
servings: 6
ingredients:
2 1/2 lbs ground turkey (i mixed the 93/7 and 85/15)
1/2 cup breadcrumbs ( i didn't have any so i used stuffing ha)
1 egg
1 tsp. ground ginger powder
1 tsp. ground garlic powder
1 tsp. ground onion powder
1 tsp. crushed red pepper
1 tblsp. low sodium soy sauce
1/2 tblsp. worcestershire sauce
2 tsp. fish sauce
salt and pepper to taste
6 slices of pineapple i used fresh but canned would be fine
sweet n spicy bbq sauce (recipe below)
16 hawaiian rolls
pre heat your grill.. in a medium mixing bowl combine everything except pineapple rings, spicy bbq sauce and rolls. mix until incorporated but do not over mix.. shape turkey into 16 mini burgers, the size of your rolls..put your patties and pineapple slices on your pre lit grill.. turn the side the burgers and pineapples are on to off and keep the other side on high.. your going to cook them over indirect heat so they don't burn because of the bbq sauce.. cook for about 4-5 minutes and then just before flipping (your going to flip them to the now on side and turn that side off and the other side to high so they are never actually over the direct flame but still on a "hot" grill) brush your burgers and pineapple with the sweet n spicy bbq sauce..and flip.. now that they are flipped brush the other side with the sauce.. and cook your burger until no longer pink.. you want an internal temperature of about 160 degrees and you want your pineapple to be soft.. just before removing the patties toast your rolls on the lit side of the grill.. then remove everything and assemble your burgers..
it's going to be messy, sticky and juicy and outrageously good!!
sweet n spicy bbq sauce
1/2 cup sweet baby rays honey bbq sauce
1/4 cup szechuan spicy stir fry sauce
1/2 tbls. siracha sauce
(if you want more sweet add more bbq sauce if you want more heat add more siracha)
over medium heat in a small pot combine all ingredients.. bring to a boil reduce to simmer for about 3-4 minutes then remove from heat..
