turkey burgers on fresh buttery pretzel buns
well hello there!! sorry i've been "mia" but it was hard to get back into the routine of things after the holidays.. but i believe i am finally there..{hopefully} we had the kids over for dinner on saturday and i grilled up these burgers and made pretzel buns and talk about wow!!! it was so good!!! the buns are soo simple to make.. they were soft, chewy and buttery.. the burger was an herby goodness.. now the burgers i served had tomatoes, onions, lettuce, light mayo, dijon mustard, etc.. lots of yummy stuff.. but for the picture i thought i should so it simple not all "made up" .. {it was good just the way it is above too..}
turkey burger
prep time: 15 minutes
cook time: 14-16 minutes
servings: 6 burgers
ingredients:
1 lb. fresh ground turkey {i got mine from whole foods and combined dark and white meat}
1 green onion, chopped, white and green part
1 clove of garlic, minced
1 tblsp. of chopped italian parsley
1/4 cup of bread crumbs
salt and pepper to taste
combine all ingredients above and form into burgers to fit your buns {i suggest making the pretzel buns below}.. i find that turkey burgers are a lot "looser" than regular burgers so before cooking them i put in the freezer for about 15 minutes... once ready to start get your grill heated to a medium high heat.. add burgers and allow to cook for 6 minutes on each side then cook another 2-3 on each side to make sure cooked thoroughly through.. remove from grill and allow to sit about 3 minutes then serve with your favorite toppings and cheeses..
buttery pretzel bun
prep time: 1 hour
cooking time: 5-7 minutes
servings: 6 buns
ingredients:
6 texas rhodes rolls, defrosted
1/2 cup warm water
2 tblsp. baking soda
course sea salt
3 tblsp. butter, melted
egg wash:
1 egg, beaten
1 tblsp. water
allow your rolls to defrost.. place on a lined baking sheet.. cover and allow to rise.. they should get double their size.. kinda squish them down with the palm of your hand so they aren't pouffe but more like a hamburger bun... heat your oven to 450 degrees {f}.. once they have risen take your water and baking soda in a microwave safe dish and zap for 1 minute.. using a slotted spoon dip each bun into the water/baking soda mixture.. and place back on your baking sheet.. once they have all been dipped then brush each one with your egg wash {whisk egg and water together} then sprinkle each with course sea salt.. bake for 5-7 minutes.. {check after 5 minutes}.. remove from oven and brush each one with melted butter..allow to cool and then split and add your favorite burger and toppings!! soo good!!
enjoy and get cook'n!!!
